Rhino on an IPhone

This is how the illustration looks like on an IPhone. I'm quite thrilled about the possibilities...can't wait to get my next illustration published! The image is a capture from Society6 site.

Society6

I have now a site at http://www.society6.com/flukso. I'm quite thrilled about the site as it gives the designers an opportunity to turn their illustrations into products with just a couple of mouse clicks. The people at Society6 have figured it out spot on, designers are usually bad at promoting their own work. They rather spend their time scribbling and cutting coloured paper...just like me. Let's see what this new connection brings along, it might be possible to buy my illustrations as products very soon. Exciting times!

Peter Blake at Museum of Everything from 13th Oct

This is a happy day. I noticed, thanks to ever so informative web pages of It's So Nice That (see my link list below), that Sir Peter Blake is exhibiting at the Museum of Everything, London. Knowing the place it's going to be something v. quirky. They don't promise artwork or paintings but something much more curious...this is a must see!

3D Jigsaw Draw (30th of October)

The White Night event in Brighton Saturday 30th Oct is going to be a buzzing event of quirky, fun, artsy stuff for all ages. We are organising a drawing workshop as a part of this exciting nite with my fellow MA students from Brighton Uni. I'm part of the crew of Ms Gallit Shaltiel (http://gallit.wordpress.com/) who is the heart and soul of the concept for this 3D Jigsaw Draw happening. We lot are part of The Big Draw campaign, which basically promotes drawing in general. So if you happen to be around, just pop into the Old Market in Brighton on 30th anytime between 6am–2am and contribute to the big cardboard jigsaw!

Oh and yes, I did design the poster :)

In Transition

My studies at Brighton University are almost finished, only couple of weeks to go and it's over. Looking at the work I did before the Uni and what I am working on now, the change in style is huge. I have started to trust my own intuition and am having more fun! My work's getting more abstract and free. I am starting to work more with painting after my Master's.

I've always been scared of big canvases, but I have now tackled one. Even if slight stiffness maybe comes across, I'm happy with the result (the one added today, "O"). Medium sized cardboard feels like the most tempting material to work on at the moment. I am slightly in love with cardboard boxes too! There is something really nice about cardboard, it's humble, unpretentious material.

Oh, and I will add to my link list two of my favourites artists: Riitta Ikonen and Tal R. They have completely different style, but both have playful, fun attitude towards life. That's the way to go.

Move On

I started this blog a little bit over a year ago. At the time I was craving to do stuff by hand and I wanted to document the progress. For over a year I haven't done much on my Mac, which has made more aware of the techniques available. However, it is time to move on. I am actually quite thrilled to get more streamlined look for my illustrations. The main outcome from the year is the understanding of how much time and effort it takes to find a personal style. A year is seems to be too short for this kind of exploration. I still do not know what "my style" would be. Little by little I have started to be inclined towards semi-abstract, playful compositions. Having said that, I might change my mind about that tomorrow!

Links Links

Hi there! I have added a link list on my site. Enjoy browsing through all the inspiring stuff.

I can't even begin to tell how much I admire Fuel. If you have a chance, pop into a book shop, go and experience the quality of Fuel's books! The paper they use is dreamy and the books smell soooo nice.

The amazing Miranda July never fails to lift me up! She is one of the reasons why I am where I am now.

I have also added Unstruck, which could be described as a co-operative attempt to sketch the world. Alex gives an answer to pretty much anything. With 500 words.
